MASTER OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

With the boom in computer software industry, demand for computer professionals has increased manifold. People in software industry tell of fabulous success stories, as firms have been poaching on each others professionals, offering tremendous salaries. There is great demand abroad too, and many software professionals have been sent abroad, earning phenomenal amount. The feature explains why this has happened, as well as future prospects of the career.

One of the careers which has gained importance in the last few years is the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and its allied, the Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA). All over India there is a craze to get into them, the demand being fuelled by the phenomenal growth of the software industry, in fact, in these times of an economic slowdown, software is one sector which has gone against trends, registering a good growth rate.

The reasons for this growth are many; Many foreign companies are looking at India for trained but accommodative manpower. Indian tuition software engineer, for example, can be employed at a lower salary in dollar terms. The sums may sound huge in rupee terms, but are lower than what would have to be paid to an American or European counterpart. The development of communications has made working from the country feasible. An American Company just needs to email its problem to its counterpart in Bangalore. Indian engineers work on it while America sleeps and when the offices open the next day, the Americans have the solution right on their desktop.

The MCA program is affiliated to Magadh University and duly approved by AICTE. The Department is having a full-fledged computer Centre with a total number of 60 Systems including Compaq.HCL and other Systems. All are colored Pentium IV systems. Students are allotted the Systems, in the ratio 1:1.

Apart from curriculum activities, department conducts Group Discussions, Quizzes, Paper presentations, Aptitude tests and mock interviews. Projects are also given to students in the latest software technologies, guided by experienced staff members. Certificate will be issued for projects by the College on evaluation of the performance of the students at various levels. Students are also taken to various industries to enrich their Knowledge to an appreciable extent.

Assessment of candidates shall be both external and internal. Internal assessment is based on the continuous evaluation of performance of the candidate. External assessment is based on the practical and written examinations.

Methods of Instructions :

The Department adopts different methods of instruction to impart teaching that can be instrumental in ensuring efficient discharge of the functions and duties by the future professionals. Therefore, a variety of methods are followed to facilitate an integrated learning approach. The methods include lecture-cum-discussion, analysis and discussion of cases, regular seminars and symposia, aids and simulation exercise. The mix of methods varies depending upon the nature of the course. All the methods are designed to develop the participants skill. Experts are invited from the reputed academic institutions, Eminent industrialists and professional experts from the industry and government organizations are also invited to speak to the students on different managerial issues.

The medium of instruction and examination is English only.

Academic Evaluation :

A continuous system is followed to monitor students performance. The students are evaluated on class participation, quizzes, assignment, mid-term and end-term examination, seminars and group discussions and participation in group/individual activities and attendance, and awarded grades at the end of each semester.

Attendance Policy :

Regular attendance in all classes, seminars, symposia, case discussion, field trips, periodical tests, etc. is compulsory and a 100% attendance is desired. The students will have to fulfill the condition of 75% attendance. Absence must be avoided, if inevitable, must be approved by the Director. A prolonged absence without approval will result in dismissal from the programme. No student will be permitted to appear at any semester examination unless he/she fulfils the condition of 75% attendance in Each subject paper.

Faculty:

The faculty comprises adequate number of highly qualified, competent and dedicated academicians from diverse fields. In addition to the excellent core faculty, the institute invites visiting faculty and professionals of national repute.

Academic Council:

The College has an Academic Council which includes eminent scholars, professionals, policy-makers, administrators, and managers with vast knowledge and experience to their credit. The Council helps to make the programmes highly effective and up to-date to give a direct exposure of current international economic scenario to the students.

Educational Tours :

Educational tours are also organized by the institute each year. It is compulsory for each student to join these tours at least once during the span of the programme.

Duration of the Course :

MCA is a three year regular course of six semesters. Each Semester will be of 6 Months and the academic session will start from July.

Eligibility for Admission in MCA :

The students entering MCA course must have a graduate degree or equivalent degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects either at 10+2 level or graduation level. Those having 45% marks at graduation (Hons) or 55% marks in general are eligible for admission . Students with Test score of AIMCET of the respective session will be preferred for admission. In any case fees deposited will not be refunded.

Selection Procedure in MCA/MBA :

Candidates will be short listed on the basis of their performance in the written test, group discussion and interview. Preference will be given to those who had appeared in MAT,CAT,JMAT,XAT,ATMA examinations test for respective session.

Prospectus & Registration Form :

Prospectus along with application form for admission may be obtained from the Co-odinator of MCA/MBA Department of the College on payment of Rs.500/- in cash or Rs.550/- by post through non-refundable Bank draft in favour of “Principal, Nalanda College, Biharsharif payable at Biharsharif.

The applicant should go through the instructions given in the prospectus before filling the Registration form. Incomplete Registration form will not be processed. Completed Registration form along with attested photocopies of all required certificates/documents and Rs.250/- in the form of bank draft drawn in favour of the “Principal, Nalanda College, Biharsharif payable at Biharsharif as Registration fee should reach the Co-ordinator MCA/MBA, Nalanda College, Biharsharif on or before the fixed date.

Mode of Payment :

All fees and charges are to be paid in the form of Bank draft drawn in favour of the “Principal, Nalanda College, Biharsharif payable at Biharsharif at the time of admission.

Refunds :

No fees and charges are refundable. This applies to the cases of expulsion from the College as well as to all kinds of withdrawals (voluntary or otherwise) from the College enrollment.

Note : The College reserves the right to take any decision in all matters of admission.

EXAMINATIONS

The students are required to appear at this University examination at the end of each semester.

The Students have to appear at the assessment examination in each semester carrying 20 marks in each subject. Assessment marks are awarded on the basis of class performance, attendance, seminar performance and overall behaviour.

The students have to submit a project report of 50 marks before filling examination forms at the end of IVth Semester. The project works are supervised by the teachers of the Department. The works based on field studies and site visits and site visits of factories are undertaken by the students as per decision of the Departmental Council.

They have also to appear at the viva-voce examination of 50 marks after submission of the project and written examination in the IVth semester.

The viva-voce is conducted by the External and Internal examiners appointed by the University. It is mandatory both, to submit project and appear in viva-voce examination for passing in the paper.

Medium of examination is English only.

AWARD OF DEGREE

After the final examination, the Magadh University will publish a list of successful candidates arranged in order of merit. Those who complete the programme successfully will be awarded appropriate Degree by the Magadh University.

CARRY OVER EXAMINATION

A candidate who does not clear any paper for some unavoidable reasons or fails in any paper, is promoted (on the discretion of the Principal) to the next semester. The candidate has to carry over the semester examination. The result of the final semester examination shall not be published till he/she appears and passes in the paper in which he/she failed at the previous examination or has not completed for some reasons. A student shall be allowed to cvlear any semester in consecutive three changes only.

REGISTRATION

Every student who is not already registered with Magadh University will have to get himself registered on payment of the requisite fees. The students coming from other university will have to bring Migration Certificate from their universities. Such students will have to deposit Emigration fee. They will have to fill up Registration form and Emigration form at the time of admission. The students who are not registered under Magadh University shall not appear at the examination.
